Gauloises

Whatever is produced under a name of French descent seems to make it a nationally known icon. This is why the Gauloises cigarette brand, including the Gauloises Blondes (Blue), the Gauloises Blondes Light (Red) and the Gauloises Blondes Ultra Lights have seen such success. Manufacturered in the Ukraine, smoking the Gauloises brand of cigarette was seen as a patriotic thing to do in public. If you smoked the Gauloises cigarette, this usually meant that you supported the value of the French nations. The promotional items of the Gauloises brand boasted that “if you smoke Gauloises, you contribute to the national good”. Because of the masses that smoked, the economy did see an increase from purchases of the Gauloises brand of cigarettes. The revenue generated from the sales of Gauloises cigarettes went straight to the Regie Francais Tabacs; which is the huge corporation in which the government had a large share. Popular in France, England and especially in Eurpoean countries, the Gauloises cigarettes are not cheap. Originally unfiltered and very strong, the word “blonde” was added and used to suggest a more mild smoking experience. Dubbed the “soldier’s breakfast”, the Gauloises cigarette brand was smoked during both World Wars and quickly became known as the soldier’s cigarette of choice.
