R1 Minima Cigarettes and R1 Ultra Cigarettes are a 1mg tar and 0.1mg nicotine brand manufactured in the United Kingdom by the second largest tobacco company in Germany (by sales) after British American Tobacco; Imperial Tobacco Group PLC. Located in Bristol, England, the Imperial Tobacco Company has been gobbling up companies, like Commonwealth Brands to enter the United States markets. With the R1 cigarette brand, the Imperial Tobacco Company expanded its already very large operation. These operations included hotels, catering, frozen foods, cigarette brands (fifteen to be exact, including R1) as well as other wholesaling divisions. Including rolling papers, snus and fine cut tobacco products to its line of endless offerings, the Imperial Tobacco Company is now known only as Imperial Group PLC. With sales success since 1911 when American Tobacco sold its interests in the company, exporting issues brought trade talks to the table. Necessary to maintain respect through the industry, the British-American Tobacco Company Ltd joined with the Imperial Tobacco company and the American Tobacco Companies to assign trademarks and agree not to trade in each other’s territories. This brought a diversified amount of sales and an overall reorganization to the industry.
