Winston

As famous as the NASCAR races themselves, Winston cigarettes are now one of the top ten selling cigarette brands in the entire world. Introduced by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1955, the Winston brand of cigarettes became popular quickly and was the first filtered cigarette to have such a large amount of success. The world leader in cigarette production, R.J.Reynolds, with a successful marketing policy and the proper timing for the brand to emerge, introduced the Winston brand of cigarettes; and they exploded! Promoted with slogans such as “Leave the Bull Behind” and others, the Winston brand of cigarettes projected the idea that Winston cigarettes contained no additives, making them healthier to smoke. The Federal Trade Commission, however, disagreed with this form of advertising and charged the tobacco company with deceptive advertising practices. Quickly rebounding and adding a “disclaimer” to their packaging, today Winston still boast they are the only brand not using chemicals to influence the taste and burn rate of their cigarettes. Claiming to be only “100% tobacco” to their public, the Winston brand of cigarettes remain one of the most widely known brand of cigarettes in the world.
